Why Siri AI Might Not Reach European iPhones Anytime Soon

European iPhone owners face an indefinite wait for iOS 27's Siri AI as Apple and regulators clash over Digital Markets Act compliance.

Apple's Siri AI remains unavailable on iPhones and iPads across the European Union following the release of iOS 27, with Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reporting the assistant will not arrive in the bloc anytime soon. Continued friction under the Digital Markets Act (DMA) has left the mobile deployment stalled without a clear timetable.

A Best-Case Five-Month Delay

Apple released iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, and visionOS 27 on September 14, 2026. While users in other regions gained access to Siri AI across their hardware, European Union customers found the upgrade blocked on mobile platforms.

Gurman reported in his Power On newsletter that matching the five-month delay of the original Apple Intelligence rollout represents the absolute best-case scenario for an EU release. That earlier suite debuted outside the EU in October 2024 before expanding to European users in March 2025. Gurman cautioned that a worst-case scenario could take considerably longer while regulatory discussions continue.

Apple leadership has confirmed the lack of visibility. Craig Federighi, senior vice president of software engineering at Apple, stated: "We do not currently have a timeline for Siri AI's availability on iOS and iPadOS in the EU."

The Digital Markets Act Dispute

The impasse stems from regulatory obligations under the EU's Digital Markets Act. Apple contends that DMA rules would force compromises to user privacy and device security, pointing to regulators rejecting its proposal for an 18-month phased rollout under a "Trusted System Agent" framework.

The European Commission rejects that explanation. Commission spokesperson Thomas Regnier stated that "the decision not to roll out Siri AI in the EU is Apple's and Apple's only," emphasizing that the DMA does not ban new AI products from launching in the EU.

Gurman also reported that Apple may be intentionally withholding the software from European iPhones to prompt frustrated customers to push back against the EU's regulatory approach.

Where Siri AI Currently Works in Europe

The restriction does not affect every Apple platform equally. While iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and watchOS 27 lack Siri AI in the EU, users in member states can access the feature on macOS 27 and visionOS 27 when set to a supported language.

For EU iPhone and iPad users, however, an official release window remains unconfirmed.
