TikTok Introduces AI Shopping Assistant and One-Click Feed Checkout
TikTok has unveiled an in-app AI Shopping Assistant alongside Buy Direct, a one-click checkout tool embedded directly in the For You feed.

TikTok is integrating commerce deeper into its core video stream. At Advertising Week New York 2026, the company announced Shopping Assistant, a conversational AI agent designed to answer product questions within the app, alongside Buy Direct, a one-click checkout system that lets users purchase items without leaving the For You feed.
Catalog Queries and Current Constraints
Shopping Assistant serves as an in-app product guide, delivering real-time details on sizing, shipping, inventory availability, and specifications. Shoppers can query the tool directly about specific items rather than scanning customer reviews manually.
Technical reporting outlines clear initial boundaries for the feature. Shopping Assistant pulls data strictly from product detail pages, including seller descriptions and customer reviews. At launch, the assistant cannot recommend alternative products, conduct comparative product searches, or independently execute transactions on a shopper's behalf.
While TikTok promotes the agent as a way to match shoppers with products across discovery touchpoints, its current capabilities focus specifically on answering questions tied to individual product listings.
Buy Direct and Merchant Integrations
Buy Direct aims to minimize checkout friction for impulse shoppers. Integrated with payment processor Stripe and commerce platforms including Shopify, Salesforce, and Shoplazza, the feature enables single-click purchases directly from feed videos.
The integration routes transactions through existing merchant workflows while keeping users inside the app. Both Buy Direct and Agentic Leads—a conversational AI tool for qualifying leads—are rolling out initially in the United States, with European releases withheld for now and broader international availability planned for later dates.
Automating Campaigns Across External AI Platforms
TikTok also introduced updates to its Smart+ automation suite, adding Smart+ for Search Ads Campaigns and Smart+ Creative Selection. In addition, the platform expanded its TikTok for Business Model Context Protocol (MCP) integrations.
Through MCP, external AI systems and developer environments—including Claude, Perplexity, Snowflake, Manus, Kimi, Replit, Tencent WorkBuddy, and the IAB Tech Lab Agent Registry—can launch and manage TikTok ad campaigns. These external agents can interact with TikTok advertising data directly, eliminating the need for buyers to use the Ads Manager interface manually.
The expansion targets an active commercial base. A PF Global economic impact study reported that TikTok-driven business activity generated $81 billion in U.S. GDP, with 54 million Americans purchasing a product after watching a video on the platform. Meanwhile, Kantar's Media Reactions 2026 report found that 84% of surveyed marketers place advertising on TikTok, identifying it as the top platform where advertisers intend to expand budgets in 2027.
